Lecture Title: Synthesis, Characterization and Applications of Multi-component Nanostructures

Dr. Savas Delikanli
Nanyang Technological University, Singapore

Abstract

Multi-component nanoparticles that contain two or more components have attracted much attention recently due to their multi-functionality and the synergistic properties induced by interactions between the different components. The syntheses are based on growth of a second and/or third component onto seed nanoparticles using methods including colloidal atomic layer deposition, surface functionalization and heterogeneous nucleation. Three applications of the multi-component nanoparticles will be discussed: 1. AC field heating of heterostructured nanoparticles with one of the component being magnetic, with applications in remote control of cell signaling; 2. Tuning of carrier-dopant exchange interactions by wave function engineering in the core-multishell manganese doped quantum wells for spintronics; and 3. Tunable emission from CdS/CdSe/CdS colloidal quantum well/ring hetereostructures.

Biography:

Dr. Savas Delikanli received his Ph.D. degree in Physics from State University of New York at Buffalo in 2011. In his PhD work, he investigated doping of II-VI and IV-VI colloidal QDs, and carrier spin dynamics within them. He continued his research as a postdoctoral researcher at SUNY at Buffalo until 2013. After that, he spent two years as a postdoctoral researcher at National Nanotechnology Research Center (UNAM) at Bilkent University. Dr. Delikanli has been a Postdoc at Nanyang Technological University since 2016. His research mainly focuses on synthesis of II-VI and IV-VI colloidal quantum dots, nanoplatelets, heterostructures, magnetically doped nanostructures and magnetic nanoparticles; optical, magnetic and magneto-optical characterization of nanostructures; and implementation as lasers and LEDs.
